Based around a classic love story set during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the show has been a huge hit with audiences since it first debuted in 2007 thanks to its sumptuous visuals, including a stunning stage featuring small bridges, running rivers and riverside households.

The show uses a range of effects to recreate Zhouzhuang's scenery through the changing seasons, from artificial rain during the spring section to festive Chinese New Year celebrations in winter.

Audiences have also been charmed by the show's incorporation of so many of the region's traditions and folk customs, and the new season will include even more elements from the daily lives of Zhouzhuang residents.

New additions include dramatizations of "granny tea"—the custom of old ladies in the town to gather together to gossip and drink tea—and the ancient tradition of burning straw in the fields during Lantern Festival to pray for a good harvest.

Tickets are only 150 yuan ($23) per person, 280 yuan for VIP seats, and can be bought from the ticket office next to the south of Xinpai Archway.

Starting in April 1, the show is staged every evening at 7-8 pm until November every year.
