Zhouzhuang marks anniversary of sister relationship with Jonker Walk

Zhouzhuang has launched a raft of activities to mark the 1st anniversary of establishing a sister relationship with Jonker Walk, a renowned Chinatown street in Malaysia recently. The event, opened on Nov 7 shall run through on Nov 11.

Some traditional folk art performances are currently underway in the water town, accompanying a fair featuring numerous Malaysian specialties.

In recent years, Zhouzhuang has stepped up efforts in improving its global profile by launching promotional events and teaming up with attractions overseas.

In 2015, a poster patterned with a giant sketch of Zhouzhuang debuted in the US's Time Square in New York, and in the same year, the water town also launched a promotional event in Venice, Italy. A month ago, it formed a sister relationship with Sveitsi Nature Park in Hyvinkää, Finland.

Jonker Walk, or Jalan Hang Jebat, is a street in Melaka's historical Chinatown district, which is renowned for its antique houses.

Zhouzhuang, dubbed "Venice of the East", is noted for its profound cultural background, the well-preserved ancient residential houses and elegant riverside views. In 2017, Zhouzhuang received 5.47 million visitors, up 6 percent year-on-year.
